Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Lab Technician & Quality Officer to join our production team. This role is critical to maintaining our high standards of product safety and quality, ensuring that our grain products, such as maize and cassava flour, meet stringent health and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will lead the quality committee, serve as Quality Manager for the implementation of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22000, and other relevant quality standards, and act as the primary liaison with our external quality consulting firm, BlueMOON Ltd, while collaborating closely with internal teams.
 
Key Responsibilities
* Quality Control Testing: Conduct laboratory tests on raw materials and finished products, including moisture content, aflatoxin levels, and microbial contamination, to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
* Process Monitoring: Oversee production processes to ensure adherence to hygiene and quality protocols, including proper handling, drying, and packaging of grain products.
* Equipment Calibration: Maintain and calibrate laboratory and production equipment to ensure accurate testing and processing results.
* Data Recording and Reporting: Document test results, prepare quality reports, and communicate findings to the production team to support continuous improvement.
* Compliance and Certification: Lead the implementation of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22000, and other relevant quality standards, ensuring all products meet local and international requirements, and assist in audits or inspections.
* Quality Committee Leadership: Chair the internal quality committee, driving quality initiatives and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the organization.
* Liaison with External Consultants: Serve as the primary point of contact with BlueMOON Ltd, coordinating external audits, consultations, and implementation of quality management systems.
 * Training and Support: Train production staff on quality control procedures and support farmers and cooperatives using our drying services to meet quality standards.
 
Qualifications
* Relevant degree or diploma in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field.
* Experience in a laboratory or quality control role, preferably in a food production or agro-processing environment.
* Knowledge of food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP) and quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22000).
* Proven leadership skills, with experience in managing teams or committees.
* Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and quality management software.
* Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to troubleshoot quality issues.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including BlueMOON Ltd.
