The National Social Insurance Fund (CNPS) operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security in Cameroon. It offers various financial benefits to employees, including family allowances, maternity leave, pension allowances, and survivor pensions. Here’s a detailed overview of these benefits.

 

1. Family Allowance

What is Family Allowance?

Family allowance is a financial grant typically provided by the government or employer. It is usually determined by occupation and the number of dependent children. To qualify, you must be registered with the CNPS and have a matricule number, as well as having contributed for at least six months.

How Much is Family Allowance in Cameroon?

In Cameroon, the family allowance is 4,500 FCFA per child. A lump sum of twelve times the monthly allowance is paid for each viable child.

How to Apply for Family Allowance in Cameroon

Eligibility: Children must be within the age range of 0-21 years.

Steps to Apply:

  1. Visit the CNPS website.
  2. Click on the "Online Services" tab (Service en ligne).
  3. Scroll to "Imprimes."
  4. Download Form Number 27 (Demande Allocation Familiale).
  5. Fill out the form and attach the required documents:
    • Handwritten birth certificates for all legal children under age 21, signed by the mayor.
    • Handwritten marriage certificate signed by the mayor if you are married.
    • School attendance or apprenticeship certificates for children above six years.
    • Collective life certificate for children aged 0-6 from the D.O.
    • Photocopies of all birth and marriage certificates.
    • Photocopy of your National ID card and that of your spouse.
    • Court declaration if your child was not declared to the government within the prescribed timeframe (3 months).
    • Document for any misspelled names.
    • Form Number 5 (Attestation of non-perception of family allowance by another scheme).
    • Form Number 2 (Attestation sur l’honneur non Fonction) if your spouse is unemployed.
    • Engagement form (Declaration sur l’honneur) for CNPS mobile money or bank account.

Note: No CNPS document should carry a fiscal or communal stamp.

 

2. Maternity Leave

What is Maternity Leave?

Maternity leave is the right granted to employees to take some months off upon giving birth. To be eligible, an employee must submit a notice of pregnancy and specify when they wish to commence their leave. In some cases, maternity leave may start earlier due to pregnancy-related issues.

How to Apply for Maternity Leave in Cameroon

Steps to Apply:

  1. Go to the CNPS website.
  2. Click on the "Online Services" tab (Service en ligne).
  3. Download Form Number 19 (Demande prestations familiales).
  4. Scroll to "Imprimes."
  5. Fill out the form and attach the following documents:
    • Handwritten birth certificate of the child signed by the mayor.
    • Handwritten maternity leave decision from your employer.
    • Forms Number 12 (Certificate of Medical Expenses for Delivery) and Number 13 (Certificate of Medical Expenses for the First Prenatal Exam).
    • Resumption of duty document from your employer.

Note: Ensure that your employer has registered you with CNPS and is regular in their teledeclarations. Also, no CNPS document should carry a fiscal or communal stamp.

 

3. Pension Allowance

What is Pension Allowance?

A pension is a retirement fund for employees, typically paid by the employer, the employee, or both. Many retirees in Cameroon face challenges when applying for their pension allowance. This guide aims to help retirees navigate the application process through CNPS.

How to Apply for Pension Allowance in Cameroon

Steps to Apply:

  1. Visit the CNPS website.
  2. Click on the "Online Services" tab (Service en ligne).
  3. Scroll to "Imprimes."
  4. Download Form Number 30 (Demande de pension) and Form Number 5 (Cessation/Engagement de cessation d'emploi d'un travailleur).
  5. Fill out the forms and attach the following documents:
    • Retirement decision from your employer.
    • Certificate of service from all past and present employers.
    • If retired before 2012, attach ten payslips (two for each of the last five years).

4. Survivor Pension

What is a Survivor Pension?

A survivor pension provides benefits to the dependents of a scheme member who has passed away, either before or after they began collecting the pension.

Who is Eligible for Survivor Pension?

Eligibility includes widows, orphans under the age of 14 (age 18 if an apprentice, and age 21 if a full-time student or disabled), and dependent parents. If there are no surviving dependents, the pension may be divided among other relatives.

How to Apply for Survivor Pension in Cameroon

Steps to Apply:

  1. Go to the CNPS website.
  2. Click on "Imprimes."
  3. Click on the "Online Services" tab (Service en ligne).
  4. Download Form Number 1 (Attestation administrative) and Form Number 20 (Demande de pension de survivants).
  5. Fill out the forms and ensure Form Number 1 is signed by the Divisional Officer.

Attach the following documents:

  • Handwritten birth certificates for children under 21, signed by the mayor.
  • Photocopies of all birth certificates.
  • Photocopy of marriage certificate.
  • Handwritten marriage certificate signed by the mayor.
  • Life certificate from the office of the Divisional Officer.
  • Attestation of bank account or CNPS form.

Note: It is essential that no CNPS document carries a fiscal or communal stamp.

 

How to Get a CNPS Number in Cameroon

Steps to Obtain a CNPS Number:

  1. Visit the CNPS website.
  2. Click on the "Online Services" tab (Service en ligne).
  3. Scroll to download Form Number 31 (Demande d'immatriculation Assuré(e)).
  4. Download Form Number 6 (Avis d'embauche d'un travailleur de cessation d'emploi d'un travailleur).
  5. Fill out the forms and attach the following documents:
    • A handwritten certificate from any council, signed by the mayor.
    • Photocopy of your National ID card, signed by the police.
    • Attestation of account from an accredited financial institution or a filled momo form from the CNPS website.
    • Handwritten birth certificate signed at the council and scanned in picture format (jpeg).

Note: No CNPS document should carry a fiscal or communal stamp.
